William Carpenter was born in 1575. He died in 1658 at the age of 83. William was a carpenter by trade and a "Dissenter" who had to leave London as a result of religious persecution. He sailed from Southhampton, England in the ship "Bevis" with the family of his son William. They arrived at Wells, Maine in 1638 and later settled in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Parents: William Carpenter.

Children were: William Carpenter.

William Carpenter29 was born in 1603. He died on 7 February 1659 at the age of 56. William came to Wells, Maine in 1638 from Southhampton, England aboard the ship "Bevis" with his father, his wife, and four sons. He was town clerk of Rehobeth, Massachusetts 1645-1649, and deputy in Plymouth General Court in 1656. He returned to Weymouth, Massachusetts after the death of his father in 1658. Parents: William Carpenter.

Spouse: Abigail (Searles, Sale?) Arnold. Abigail (Searles, Sale?) Arnold and William Carpenter were married. Through some information supplied by Allen Lasky we have found that a woman named Abigail Searles (born 1606 in England, died 1687 in Rehobeth, Massachusetts) married a William Carpenter in England. This may have been the same person as Abigail Arnold. All of the information supplied here about siblings and ancestors of Abigail are those of Abigail Searles (who we do not know to be the same as Abigail Arnold). The death date and place of Abigail Searles are the same as the death date and place of Abigail, the wife of William Carpenter according to "The Carpenter Family of Rehobeth," but no last name is given for her in that work. The name of Abigail Arnold comes to me on a typed sheet tracing the ancestry of the Carpenter family which gives no sources and no information about her. On this sheet was an error which omitted Nathan Carpenter in the line of descent. Also on this sheet was a handwritten correction which changed the name of the wife of Eliphalet Carpenter from Freelove Chase to Freelove Chaffee. For these reasons I think it quite possible that the maiden name of Abigail Arnold could also be in error. This line, and in particular, this marriage, needs to be investigated further. Children were: William Carpenter, Lieut. Samuel Carpenter, Joseph Carpenter, John Carpenter.
