Thus, if you are Take care, Sincerely, P.S., we still have the summer camp that Josephine (Aunt Bo) built in Maine - she was quite a gal from what we hear. Hi Caleb, It occurred to me that maybe you've seen the movie "The Whales of August" with Bette Davis? Well, if so, that's the Maine cottage on Cliff Island that "Aunt Bo" built and was used for that film. When she built the cottage (aka "Camp") (1909 - first used 1913) she only created a summer cottage in hopes it would last about 10 years. In fact, it still stands. She hired a boat builder on another island (Long Island) and it's by God's good grace it still stands. Spouse: Patrick O'Brien. Holly Elizabeth Pitkin and Patrick O'Brien were married. He died on 12 May 1868 at the age of 71 in Sharon, Ohio. In 1820, Horace had his own household in Marshfield where he lived with one female and two men. Horace was a charter member of the Plainfield Masonic Lodge in 1825, along with his brothers Stephen and Edwin, and cousins James, and Harvey Pitkin. At the time of the 1830 census, his family was still in Marshfield, but moved to Sharon, Ohio before 1840. In 1850 he was living in Sharon, Franklin County, Ohio, as a farmer with fourteen farm laborers in his household. Also still at home were all the children except Erastus, and a Levi Pitkin, aged 21. This may have been his nephew Levi Watson Pitkin, but L.W. Pitkin is also shown in the home of his father Edwin Pitkin of Marshfield, VT in the 1850 census. If the two records were not made concurrently, it would be possible for him to have shown up in both. In January 1827 Horace deeded to Edwin and Stephen Pitkin "the mill and five acres Stephen Pitkin deeded me". This mill seems to have been in Lot 11 of the third range, probably along what is now known as King Brook, which empties into the Winooski near the King School. Yale China Mission, (now the Yale-China Association), was founded in his memory. "Pitkin was born in Philadelphia. On his mother's side, he was a descendant of Elihu Yale, the founder of Yale College. The Pitkin family settled in Manchester (Connecticut). Entering Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire, in 1884 Pitkin took a leading role in the campus Christian Endeavor movement. Entering Yale in 1888, he excelled in music, writing, and volunteer activities. He was widely admired for his sunny disposition and strong convictions. "In the summer of 1889 at Dwight L. Moody's Northfield (Massachusetts) School, he signed the Student Volunteer Movement (SVM) pledge, indicating his intention to become a missionary. Following graduation from Yale in 1892, he entered Union Theological Seminary, New York, then spent an interim year as traveling secretary for the SVM. In 1894, with his fiancee, Letitia Thomas, a graduate of Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts, he offered himself for service with the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. "Pitkin graduated from Union Theological Seminary in 1896, then he and Letitia were married. The couple sailed from New York in November 1896, traveled through the Holy Land, Egypt, and India before landing at Tianjin in May 1897. At Baoding, in present-day Hebei province, he joined the ABCFM mission. "During the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, the missionary compound in Baoding was overrun by anti-missionary and anti-foreign Chinese Boxers. Pitkin was killed and the other missionaries serving in the city were also killed or later executed. In all, fourteen Presbyterian, Congregational, amid China Inland Mission missionaries were killed at Baoding. Letitia and an infant son were in the United States when Pitkin was killed. "Pitkin's death motivated several students at Yale to create an organization to send missionaries to China. One said that "Pitkin's martyrdom... made me determined to see if possible that Pitkin's sacrifice was atoned for somehow by us as Yale men." The Yale Mission in China was established in June 1901."
