UXBRIDGE -- Charles H. Corbett Jr., 74, of Carney Street, a World War II veteran and a retired sales representative, died Sunday, July 8, in Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital, Milford.
His wife, Beverly R. (Taft) Corbett, died last year. He leaves four daughters, Sharon L. Jones of Columbus, Ohio, Susan B. Desruisseaux of Uxbridge, Cheryl B. MacIndoe of Linwood and Betsy J. Choate of Douglas; a sister, Esther V. Hall of Smithfield, R.I.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a niece. He was born in Warwick, R.I., son of Charles H. and Signe (Nordstrum) Corbett, and lived most of his life in Rhode Island before moving to Uxbridge in 1981. He graduated from Providence High School and was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Corbett was a sales representative for 37 years for Chemetron Corp., Boston, retiring in 1991.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 12, in Buma Funeral Home, 101 North Main St. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. A calling hour is 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 12, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice Inc., 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608.

Corcoran, 26 (born Rhode Island), lodging with William J. and Mary Wright on Free St. Mother born Rhode Island, father born Massachusetts. He worked as a glazier in a shop. Except for the father's birthplace, this is consistent with the following two census findings:

The 1910 census of Pawtucket, RI lists a Thomas Corcoran, Sr., 50 (born Ireland, immigrated 1860), iron worker in a horse shoe shop, whose household included his wife, Mary E, 48 (married for 28 yrs), daughters Mary E., 25, packer in a thread mill, and Helen, 15, and his sister-in-law, Catherine Burns, 38, "sitting up" for a jewelry shop. Thomas, Jr. is NOT a part of this household in 1910.

A 1925 Rhode Island census of Pawtucket lists this same household, but with the addition of a Barbara M. Corcoran, aged 28, daughter of Thos, Sr. Also in this census, the younger Mary is listed as Minnie E. Corcoran.

Thomas F. Corcoran, 46, is listed in the 1930 census of Providence, RI. He rented his home for $40/month. His father was born in the Irish Free State, his mother in Rhode Island. Thomas was born in Rhode Island. His occupation was foreman, glazier at a lumberyard. Living in his household were Marguerite J. Corcoran, 42, Helen F. Corcoran, 3, and Mary A. Dorman, 77. Marriage ages are listed for Tom and Daisy of 42 and 37.

Eleanor Cornwall was born about 1430 in Burford, Shropshire, England. She died in 1520 at the age of 90 in Croft Castle, Leominster, Herefordshire, England. Sir Hugh's widow, Eleanor, married Sir Richard Croft, of Croft Castle near Leominster. In 1461 he had played a major role in the Yorkist victory at Mortimer's Cross, two miles away. By Sir Richard Croft, Dame Eleanor had eight children. They, as did Sir Hugh's daughter Elizabeth, married so well that on her father's heart-tomb is written, "Dame Eleanor had such increase of children that seventeen score and odd people were descended from her body before she died". Two of her direct descendants were Sir Philip Sidney, the Elizabethan poet, and Robert, Earl of Leicester, the Queen's favourite.

Sir Richard Croft held a number of high offices including that of Governor or Ludlow Castle where Dame Eleanor became the "Lady Governess" to the two little Princes, Edward (later Edward V) and Richard, Duke of York, who were to be murdered in The Tower of London.

Dame Eleanor outlived both her children by Sir Hugh Mortimer. She died aged nearly 90 in 1520. She is buried in the church alongside Croft Castle in a double effigy with her second husband, who died in 1509.
