Obituary Notice: Mrs. mary H. Bemis, whose death at Marshfield the 18th of March, at the advanced age of 81 years, 7 months, and 18 days, was announced in the last number of the Argus and Patriot, was the widow of the late Daniel Bemis. Her maiden name was Mary H. Morse. She was born in Francestown, NH, but at the age of five years moved with her parents into the town of Marshfield. She was the eldest of twelve children, three sisters of whom are now living, two in Iowa, and one in Massachusetts. At the age of 22 years she married Daniel Bemis, and moved to what is locally known as "Knob hill," where they lived fifty-four years. Here they were blessed with eleven children, eight of whom are still living, two sons in Minnesota, and three sons and three daughters residing within a distance of two miles of the old homestead.
At the time of her death she had been living in the town of Marshfield seventy-six years, this being, so far as is known, longer than any person within its limits. She was a great lover of work, and seldom seen idle; was unselfish, and universally respected. Since the decease of her husband she has made her home among her children, to whose welfare during her whole life she has always been more than willing to devote her strength, feeble though it was in her declining years.
Some of the dear old hymns sung in her youth, and selected by herself previous to her death for that especial occasion, were again sung at the funeral service. Never could they seem more appropriate or touching, and thus with her we will sing:
"Let cares like a wild deluge come,
And storms of sorrow fall;
May I but safely reach my home,
