Information found in "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England" James Savage Vol. III John left Newbury and went to Hartford connecticut where he is spoken of as having the second lot west of Main Street on the south side of Elm. He became associated with his uncle, Gregory Wolterton, another of the first settlers of Hartford, a man of means and the proprietor of a large tanyard. Some sources believe that Wolterton, having no children of his won, adopted John, but no real authority for this ahs been found. He inherited the tanyard and a house from his uncle He continued the tanyard successfully thoughout his life, thinking so much of it in fact as to will that "it shall not BEE Allienated to any Person that is not of my prosteritie for ever." John was made freeman 20 May 1658 He and his wife were members of the SEcond Congregational Church where John was a Decon. His will was signed 11 April 1684. His funeral was held on 13 July 1808 at 4:30 PM at the Meeting House of Mr. Murray in Boston (probably Rev. John Murray founder of the Universalist denomination in Boston). Interestingly, the funeral notice invited all members of the Engine Companies of Boston & Charlestown to come to his funeral, as John Milk had been a Member of Engine Company Number 8 in Boston.
