Adeline Elizabeth Fisher was born on 16 July 1832 in Roxbury, Massachusetts. She died on 22 March 1909 at the age of 76 in 3244 Pawtucket Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island.35 Adeline died of chronic heart and kidney disease. She was buried in Attleboro Falls, Massachusetts. Entries in an account book from 1873 indicate that Addie took in borders on a regular basis, and prepared meals for them. She also occasionally worked out of the home for short periods of time. Addie had an "Aunt Rowley" who was referred to in a number of letters she received during the 1860's. This was her mother's sister Catherine. Addie wrote the following letter at North Attleboro on September 11, 1865: "My dear Husband, As Tinny (her daughter Ida) has gone to ride with Willie as far as Mrs. Cheever's I thought I would improve the time to write to you as I felt too tired last evening. We arrived here safe & sound last Thursday about 1/4 before 1 Oclk. The stage stopped at the gate but there was no one any where round to meet me. I thought it was very strange but upon getting into the house I found out the reason. They knew nothing about my coming. Lizzie (Eliza, Robert's sister) had not got Tommie's (Robert's brother?) letter and has not got it yet so they were not expecting me but thought when the stage stopped it was company for the people up stairs. but they were glad to see me, and it is just as you said about Tinnie they all want to do everything for her and would hold her and pet her if she would let them but she says "way" to them. Grandma gets everything for her to play with that she can find. she took care of her yesterday while I went to church, and when I got home Tinnie was asleep and Grandma was sitting by the bed brushing away the flies. they have no misquitoes here but a great many flies. Emmeline (Robert's sister) thinks Tinnie is very interesting and takes a good deal of notice of her. Tinnie has taken a great fancy to Billy (Robert's brother) she wants to go to him as soon as he comes in. I have been to see Dr. Tucker about Tinnie, they all said so much about it, and thought she looked so delicate and weak and wanted I should see him so much that I thought I would go. Lizzie was going to see about your mother. He was pleased to see her walking so nicely and thought she had got along well: he examined her and said there was still a little irritation about the stomach but he could see that she would be better and stronger and have more muscle. he ordered a bottle for her No 86. I met at the Dr's Anna Bennett & Mr. Rogers, Louisa's Husband. They came down here and spent the afternoon. Anna wants me to be sure and come and see them. I told her I was coming. when do you think it is the best time to go before you come or after? I liked the appearance of Mr. Rogers very well. he seems to be a real fine young man. he invited me to come and see them & make them a visit. He & Louisa are going to house keeping. they have taken a house in Franklin. I want you to come up Robbie dear just as soon as you can. therefore I think you had better pay Tommie on the next pay day as you will have more money than on the next after. and perhaps you might want to come up then and would not want to spare it, so I should think you had better pay it next Wednesday. The girls send their love and want you to come as soon as you can. I was quite lonesome last night more so than I have been since I came. I do not know of anything more to write so I will bid you good bye. Give my love to Father & Tommie and accept a large share yourself and some kisses from Tinnie and mamma. Answer soon as you can and tell me when you think you will come and dont work too hard. good bye darling. from you affect wife, Addie."

Charles G. (Grandison?) Fisher was born in 1800 in Massachussetts. Charles gravestone in the Common Street Cemetery in Watertown, Massachusetts gives his death date as June 11, 1861 at age 60. He was buried in 1861 at Common Street Cemetery in Watertown, Massachusetts. He died on 11 June 1864 at the age of 64 in Boston, Massachusetts. Charles was referred to in a letter written by his son in 1863.

Boston Death Record gives date as June 11, 1864. Gravestone give date June 11, 1861. Both give age at death as 60 years. I suspect an error in the reading of the gravestone. On September 10, 1858, Miss Adeline E. Fisher received "care of C. G. Fisher (presumably her father) Roxbury, Mass" a letter from her cousin Maggie. On April 25, 1862, Charles G. Fisher, Jr. sent twenty dollars to his father, Charles G. Fisher at 73 & 75 Blackstone St., Boston, Massachusetts.

The 1840 census of Roxbury, Massachusetts lists Charles G. Fisher. His household consisted of a male under five (Charles, Jr., maybe?), a male between 20 and 30, a male between 30 and 40 (Charles himself), a female between 5 and 10 (Adeline), a female between 20 and 30, and a female between 50 and 60 (possibly his mother or mother-in-law?).

The 1850 census of Roxbury, Massachusetts lists Charles G. Fisher, 46, a trader, living with Arthur Fisher, 11, Elizabeth Fisher, 41, Adeline Fisher, 17, and Charles G. Fisher, 10. All born in Massachusetts, and Elizabeth Coverly, aged 62, also born in Massachusetts.

The 1860 census of Ward 11 in Boston lists Charles G. Fisher, 62, a clerk, born in Massachusetts, living with Adeline Fisher, 24, born in Massachusetts, and Charles G. Fisher, 20, a clerk, born in Massachusetts.

Boston Death Records June 11, 1864: Charles G. Fisher, aged 60, Died at 5 Chester Place, Occupation, Trader, born Roxbury. Father: Louis Fisher, born Roxbury, Mother: Mary Fisher, born Warren, RI. Cause of death: Infection of Bowels.

Februaray 13th, 1803, Charles Grandison Fisher was baptized the son of Lewis Fisher in the First Church Dorchester. No evidence in the record that it is this Charles G. Fisher.

Amazing age discrepancy between the records, but there can be no question, at least, that the two census records of 1850 and 1860 are of the same family. Parents: Lewis Warren Fisher and Mary (Polly, Molly) Randall.

Spouse: Clotilde Elizabeth Whitney. Clotilde Elizabeth Whitney and Charles G. (Grandison?) Fisher were married on 9 December 1830 in Boston, Massachusetts. Boston Marriage Records, December 9, 1830 record a marriage between Charles G. Fisher and Clotilda Elizabeth Whitney. Children were: Adeline Elizabeth Fisher, Charles Gardner Fisher.

Charles Gardner Fisher was born in 1841 in Massachussetts. Charles was 20 years of age at the time of the 1860 census. He died on 25 May 1915 at the age of 74 in Nashville, Tennessee. Charles served in the civil war.

The following letter refers to the Battle of Salem Church, part of the larger Battle of Chancellorsville: "U.S. Ford, Va, May 5, 1863. Dear Sister, I am writing you a short letter to let you know that I am alive & unhurt although I have been in one of the largest battles of the war. My bunk comrade was killed and the other two were wounded. I alone of the four that messed together am unhurt. Our co. lost 19 killed & wounded & four of 5 missing. We are lying in the intrenchment at U.S. Ford. Tell Tom Cargill that we are supporting his battery. Our regiment drive the rebels until we get-out-of ammuntion then we were relieved and the rebs drove the regiment that relieved us back. I got my bundle just as I was going on the battlefield and it was carried back to the intrenchments & were destroyed to save them from the rebs but I got the glasses. We are expecting an engagement ever minute. From your affect. bro. C. G. Fisher"

"Nashville, Tenn. June 14, 1877. Dear Sister, Although I wrote you last I thought I would write again and find out about your long silence. The last letter I wrote you was Jan 1st 1874. but I never received any answer, and as I had no good news to write I would not write until I heard from you. I have no good news to write now but my prospects look brighter than they did. After five years sickness with the chills & fever and 3 years with a crazy wife on my hands in a state and county professedly to poor to make proper provisions for such, and after my long sickness to poor myself to pay her board at the asylum, I done the best I could by taking care of her myself. I am once more a free man with good health at present with no family but my oldest boy 9 years old. But with no capital to do any thing with I have got to begin at the bottom of the ladder again. Have had the hardest time for the last 7 years that any poor man ever had, but am not discouraged yet. The first four years of my sickness I spent much money for medicine, doctor, and moving in search of a healthy locality. and lost much time and was pretty well broke up financialy when my wife went crazy in the last year of my sickness. My youngest boy, Sammy died while my wife was insane. on the 3rd of Jun 1874. His death hurt me more than the rest of my troubles as he was my baby boy and a most promising child. my favorite. My wife died Aug 30th 1876 and I had rather she had died than lived as she was better off and I could do no good for her, myself, or child while she lived in that condition. The times have been so hard since she died that I have not done much good. I am living in Nashville at present and am doing business in the market for another man for wages but am trying to get some of my friends to stake me so I can get in the business my self. Two or three years ago this would have been no trouble for me to do but now although it would not take more than two hundred dolls for horse wagon and all times are so hard it is almost impossible to make such an arrangement now. I am trying to make a pardneship arrangement with one of my old employers and will if he can get hold of some money that he has wound up in some property. I have given up saw milling entirely as it led me to very unheathy parts of the country. If I had not had the constitution of a mule I should have been dead long ago. If you get this letter and answer it I will write you a longer one next time. The last letter I wrote you was directed to Whiting Manf Co, No Attleboro. I hope this letter will find yourself and family in good health. Give my love and respect to all my relations & friends and write me all the news and all about my acquantances. VIRA PARTIC. Give her my love. Write soon and direct to Chas. G. Fisher care Jas. C Stacey, Colonade Building, Nashville, Tenn."

An awesome find.
My gg grandfather Charles G Fisher was a vet from the 2nd Mass. He was from Roxbury, Ma and after the war lived the rest of his life in Nashville, Tn where he was layed to rest.
