ORSON WOODCOCK son of Peter and Eliza Woodcock, was born in Danville, Vermont, January 5th, 1833.

"My father was born in Marshfleld and my grandfather, Ebenezer Woodcock, was also an inhabitant of Marshfleld. I was married to Ruth Austin, of Marshfleld in 1857, and one child was born to us, a boy, who died at the age of three years. For the past thirty-seven years we have lived in Randolph, which is my post-office address. I am now 72 years of age and my wife is 65. I enlisted August 25th, 1862, from Marshfleld, Vermont, and served in Company C, 13th Vermont Volunteers, being discharged July 21st, 1863. Occupation at enlistment and for the past 50 years a carpenter and builder. Being a carpenter I was detailed to go to Brattleboro to help build barracks for the soldiers, then was sent back to my regiment, and went to Washington, where I was again detailed to work on hospitals part of the time and for the rest did camp and picket duty. I was on guard duty at East Capitol Hill a very rainy and windy night; the rain did not come down from the sky, but came sideways so I had my boots full of water in a short time. That night I caught a severe cold and at the time of the so called Randall's raid, I could not flnd the surgeon to get excused so I followed the regiment to Union Mills. I could not march the next morning and was taken to the hospital and when I was better I was detailed to work in the hospital and stayed with them until mustered out at Brattleboro, Vt., July 21, 1863. I well remember when 20 of our horses were captured by Mosby's men, when we were on our way to Fairfax Station for supplies, leaving us without horses; we went down in Prince Williams county the next day and took 42 horses from the plows and harrows of the rebels. This giving us a goodly number I had one to ride to Mount Vernon. I was connected with the hospital nearly all the time until discharged. Though not in any battle I am sure I saw and experienced the saddest part of army life. Many were sick, requiring constant care and many died. Wooster, taken from the Trempealean Record, recently received by friends in this town: Curtis S. Wooster of Winona, Minn., was born in the town of Marshfield, Vt., 57 years ago, spending his boyhood days in that and surrounding towns. He was the son of Stephen and Dorcas Pitkin Wooster, receiving his higher education at Goddard Seminary, graduating in the class of 1875. Mr. Wooster married Miss Idella West of East Montpelier and they went west to make their home, living in the towns of Chatfield, Minn., and Trempealean, Wiss. While at Trempealean he was engaged in fruit growing, and was a successful breeder of Aberdeen Angus cattle. To Mr. and Mrs. Wooster were born three daughters and two sons. The deceased is survived by the widow, three daughters, Mrs. Fanny Dugan and Miss Laura Wooster of Winona and Mrs. Luella Johnson of Centerville, Minn., also two sons, Wallace and Ralph, also of Winona."

John Steven Wooster was born on 6 October 1823 in Walden, Vermont. He died on 6 October 1895 at the age of 72 in Marshfield, Vermont. Steve and Dorcas lived in Cabot until 1857 when they purchased a farm from her brother Orsamus. This farm adjoined her father's farm to the east, and was owned in 1996 by Belmont and Clotilde Pitkin. It was known for years as the Steve Wooster place. The Woosters came to the farm with their four children, and lived there for almost thirty-five years. Although it is possible that some farm buildings had been built there by Orsamus, it is likely that most of the barns and sheds were built by Steve and Dorcas. It is also likely that Steve did much of the work of clearing and cultivating the farm. In 1889, the farm was listed in Child's business directory as consisting of 130 acres, 12 cows, 13 other cattle, and 400 sugar trees. We know from some journal entries of an unknown neighbor, that Steve kept steers (oxen) for doing farm work. No horses are mentioned in the 1889 directory, but horses were kept on the farm at a later time in a barn built for that purpose. The Woosters were surrounded by relatives during their years on this farm. Levi Pitkin took over the neighboring Edwin Pitkin farm, and beyond that were two Dwinell farms to the west (Dorcas' mother was Olive Dwinell), and to the east was the Bent family, Samuel, Sarah (Dwinell), and their son, Clark. A little further east, on the river road, lived Squire Daniel Wooster, Steve's father. Clark Bent's diary indicates that there were frequent visits among the various families. Steve Wooster sold the farm in 1892, shortly after Dorcas died. Parents: Daniel Wooster and Hannah Blaisdell.

Mary Josephine Schauer, age 76, of McKinney, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, in Plano, Texas. She was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on September 8, 1946, an only child, to Ralph Curtis and Deryl (Manning) Wooster. Mary Jo graduated from Eau Claire Memorial High School, Class of 1964, and then went on to further her education at Wisconsin State University in Eau Claire. She moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1968 and had her only daughter, Stephanie, in 1970. She moved across the state in 1980 to St. Joseph, Missouri, where she lived until moving to Texas in 2001. She attended Missouri Western State College later in life and received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1991. Over the years she worked in real estate, retail sales, and was a professional casino dealer in Kansas City, Missouri. Mary Jo enjoyed drawing, painting, puzzles, photography, cross-stitch, knitting and researching her family’s ancestry. Upon discovering social media, she also loved staying in touch with family and friends on Facebook. Mary Jo is survived by her only daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Patrick Kalahar of Plano, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Deryl Wooster.
