Lilia Tamm was born on 24 February 1982. Berkeley’s rich history as a cradle of progressive action offers a perfect backdrop for the work of the local Grassroots Campaigns office. Most Americans consider California to be one of the “bluest” states. However, as Canvass Director Lilia Tamm notes, “A lot of work must go into keeping this blue state green!” The office is located in the center of Berkeley, within minutes of the headquarters of many other progressive organizations; the Berkeley office boasts a staff with diverse and often unusual backgrounds. To this day, aspiring public servants travel from miles around to take part in the city’s activist community. It’s one of the oldest cities in California and one of the most progressive.

The Berkeley office of GCI is currently campaigning on behalf of Forests Forever, a statewide non-profit group dedicated to the preservation of California’s forests. Forests Forever was founded in 1989 and works tirelessly every day to protect and restore 17 million acres of forests all across California. We are working to protect the Roadless Rule, a federal policy that keeps logging out of undeveloped national forests, by making sure Governor Schwarzenegger hears from Californians who want him to support it.

Lilia Tamm is steering the ship in Berkeley as the lead director. Lilia went to the University of Pennsylvania and studied Political Communications. Lilia got started on her activist career at the movies! She was canvassed outside of the movie theater where she was seeing Farenheit 911 on its opening day with her mom. Within the week she had not only been hired for the campaign, but was quickly promoted into a field manager position. Lilia took over the lead Canvass Director position in November.

Greetings!
My name is Lilia Tamm. I'm the Berkeley director for Grassroots Campaigns, and one-time CAL,
Berkeley student. We are an organization that runs grassroots fundraising and field work for some
of the nation's top for progressive candidates, campaigns, and organizations, including MoveOnPAC,
the Democratic National Committee, Amnesty International, Oxfam America, People for the American
Way, and many more. We are coming to campus for information sessions and interviews on Thursday,
March 31 in Career Center Recruiting Suite 344.

There will be three information sessions on Thursday: at 9:00 a.m., 12 noon, and 3:00 p.m.
Interviews are available in between the info sessions. There will also be two information sessions
at the Berkeley
Grassroots Campaigns office on Friday, April 1. The office is located at 2055 Center St., just
below Shattuck Ave. The information sessions for Friday will be held at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.,
with interviews following each session. To sign up for a slot, please email
ltamm at grassrootscampaigns.com, or call Lilia at (267) 258-0697.

Let me give you some background on who we are. In order to have a positive impact on the most
recent election Grassroots Campaigns ran the Democratic National Committee’s grassroots
fundraising efforts and raised over $21 million dollars for the DNC’s Presidential Fund. We also
ran a
nation-wide Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) operation with MoveOn PAC which aimed to get out the vote in
key swing states all across the nation. Given that the Bush Administration has begun its second
term, our organization believes that there is no more important time than now to be doing social
change work. Therefore, we are continuing to mobilize citizens around key issues in strategic
congressional districts and local offices around the country.

We are currently seeking qualified applicants for two full-time positions as well as full-time and
part-time canvasser and intern positions. For our management-level job opportunities, we are
considering alumni and future gradates (both undergraduates and graduate students) for director
positions with our Citizen Outreach fundraising offices around the country, and to run field
operations in key congressional districts for our Congresswatch project. We are looking for strong
candidates who are interested in winning back the Congress in 2006 as well as developing strong
community based
organizations to do that.

For our full-time and part-time canvassing positions, we are seeking motivated and passionate
students or graduates to talk to citizens on behalf of one of our partners, such as the DNC,
Amnesty International, People for American Way, or Environmental PAC. Additionally, summer
internship positions are available for students interested in receiving a comprehensive education
in non-profit office management.

Thank you for your time and please feel free to contact me at the email address and phone numbers
listed below if you have any questions regarding our organization, our job openings, or our future
campus visitation. Also feel free to submit your resume at the email address listed below.

Best,
Lilia Tamm
